5:20 pm - Salem's Rebirth on Livejournal

There are about five half dead Livejournal communities about Salem. The two most active of which have maintainers who've purged their accounts( salem_ma and salemgoth are both orphans!) . An active LJ Community for Salem is long overdue. Here it is.

Whether you live in Salem or just love it, join up.

4:28 pm - A Brief Critique on the Salem Ghost Adventures Episode <|:)

" A strange energy hung in the air all day yesterday. Was it the full moon? Maybe the thunderstorm rolling through?

A quick look at my news feed reminded what it was. This was the night that the Salem episode of *shudder* Ghost Adventures was airing. I get goose pimples just thinking about it. o.0

It ended up being mildly entertaining, although there were numerous problems and obvious historical inaccuracies. I mean lots. ...I could just let it go and said I had fun drinking root beer and watching tv on a huge movie screen at Cinema Salem, but that's not what you all want, is it? XD "

Workshops on dark glamour and dance at Descent II!
Sat Oct 10, 12 – 5:30PM in Salem!
Less than one month away!

Belle Raqs: 3 Hours of Dark Glamour
with JeniViva of NYC!

A Gothic glamour workshop for dancers and non-dancers alike!

You may have seen JeniViva’s appearances on the Gothic Bellydance videos. We are so pleased that she will be here teaching her style and makeup workshop on creating the mystery and magic of dark glamour.

Find out more here: http://www.aeprilschaile.com/performance/descent-2009

Also teaching at Descent II this year: Sarah Jezebel Wood!

Anyone who was at Rakkasah 2009 knows that Sarah kicked ass this year as a member of Solstice Ensemble. Sultry, Sophisticated and Dark is a challenging workshop in tribal fusion technique exploring drama, lust, sophistication and desire.

Find out more here: http://www.aeprilschaile.com/performance/descent-2009

A part of the proceeds from the workshops benefit the Salem YMCA’s Partnership in Youth program for at-risk youth.

Sultry, Sophisticated and Dark: 12 – 2PM
Belle Raqs: 2:30 – 5:30PM
Both workshops will be held at the Salem YMCA, 1 Sewall St., Salem, MA.

Don’t forget to buy tickets for the show, too! Last year’s was sold out – we had to turn many people away.

The workshops and the show are both VERY T accessible! The Salem Y and the First Universalist Society Sanctuary are both just a short walk from the Salem commuter rail MBTA station.

If you haven’t been to Witch City in October, you don’t know what you’re missing!

More info about the show and workshops here: http://www.aeprilschaile.com/performance/descent-2009

10:18 pm - Evil Pedicabs

I am probably going to work for a rickshaw company in Salem this year.

I figure with my knowledge of local history and eye-catching style I should make very nice tips.

Problem: I hate the sun, heat, colorful clothing, shorts, etc.

Yeah, I know. This sounds stupid. Don't criticize. I need help.

Has anyone else with gothic sensabilities ever had a summer job working out in the heat/sun? What sunblock is best to keep me as pale as possible? What fabrics are most breathable? How do I prevent my makeup from running? Anyone know of a hat that won't make me look like a moron? Should I do dreadies or just tie my hair up?

I'm basically screwed here, so any help, advice, or especially personal experience is appreciated.

2:08 am - Actors needed for film about Salem, tourism, paganism...

You can audition to be in a $900,000 horror film I am creating to be filmed in Salem...

You have to go to this website, sign up (it's free), find my pitch and submit an audition. It;s that easy.

And while you're there... vote for my pitch. I entered the contest late so I need my friends and aquiantences help in getting the votes up there. If half the people I know on just myspace, facebook, or livejournal voted I WOULD WIN.

If I lose I'll know it's because my friends were to lazy to fill out a quick form and click a few links in order to help me get this movie made.

That would suck. :(

By the way, I love you. - tom (rocksalt)

If you want to read this book and don't want to wait until it goes back into print, I would suggest either attending this event, purchasing a copy on my website, or contacting me to arrange for a sale.

8:23 pm - Looking to Network IRL.

Hello, I don't currently live in Mass. but I will be moving up there before the end of this year. I'm hoping to find some people to network with around the Clinton area in Worcester(sp?) at some point...I really feel like I'm ready to seek out an individual, group, or even a Coven.

Currently I don't follow any particular tradition -I'm more Goddess oriented. I've considered myself a Pagan for a while now...since my early teens, I suppose. I'm 23yrs. and have pretty much been on my own during my search for what I feel that I need. As most Pagans appear to start out, I'm still doing alot of 'reading'. I have set up a few seasonal altars, but haven't really practiced or done any rituals.

Here is a list of most of the books I have in relation to Paganism, Witchcraft/Wicca: http://elven-sphinx.livejournal.com/81513.html -just to give you an idea of what I'm reading.

I look forward to hearing back from anyone interested or with some advice.
-Thank you!

12:43 am - Rites of Spring fast approacheth!

Some of you know me... Many of you don't... I'm sure I don't recognize the LJ names of all community members I might know by face.

I hope to see some (or many!) of you at the end of May, at Rites of Spring, one of the longest-lived Pagan gatherings in the US, and the world.

Rites of Spring, a celebration of life, community, and the sacred earth, takes place each year during the week leading up to Memorial Day, in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. This year, our 28th, the dates are May 24-29, 2006. Registration applications must be received by May 12 -- so please act soon!

Join a community 500 strong in ritual, dancing, drumming, workshops, discussions and song as we celebrate our connection with the budding earth at this most beautiful and fertile time of year.

Cabins, camping and a full meal plan are available. Families are welcome!

To find out more, go to: www.earthspirit.org and click on Rites of Spring. We hope to see you there.

(ObDisclaimer -- I'm part of the large crew that puts this together, and I'll be working [and playing] hard all week. I have no monetary interest in your attendance. Cross-posted a fair bit.)

Hi all,

My name is Krissy...I'm 22 and I live in Watertown.  I've always been very spiritual, and my beliefs tend to align with wiccan beliefs.  I've done some reading about it here and there, but I'd definitely like to learn more and become more involved.
